Mainland rally series round 2 (Otago Rally)
The challenge of Otago Rally roads awaits a competitive field for the Clearwater Painting Renovating & Decorating Mainland Rally Series competitors. With Christchurch driver Richard Baddock hoping to repeat his result from round 1, he will have the likes of Matt Summerfield, Richard Bateman & Darren Galbraith also trying to take maximum points for the weekend.
With Baddock having won the first round and taking away his first ever overall rally win his confidence will be high going into this weekend, but Baddock knows he will have Summerfield pushing hard after his best NZRC result at Rally Whangarei last month. Galbraith & Bateman will be in the battle too, with Galbraith making a small mistake at round one that cost him the win he will no doubt want to rectify that mistake this weekend and take away maximum points.
In the 1300cc class Brendon Fisher will be looking to finish the rally to slot into first place in the championship. Cameron Moore & Hamish Anderson are both hoping for a win with current class leader Brent Buist not competing this weekend in the 1600cc class. Logan Stephens will also be one keep an eye on having missed the first round.
Marcus Van Klink and Deane Buist will be the ones to look out for in class C with them both trying to win the Stadium Cars/Ssangyong International Classic Rally, that battle will be one to keep an eye on over the weekend. Series sponsor David Clearwater in his Mitsubishi will have to be quick to stay ahead of current class E leader Wayne Julian.
This year’s Drivesouth Rally of Otago commences with the Ceremonial Start in Dunedin’s Octagon on Friday evening before heading south to the Lawrence and Milton areas on Saturday for six gravel stages including a testing 49 kilometer stage and finishing with the popular Tarmac super special stage around the streets on Dunedin.
