Over the weekend we had a great first NZ Rally Championship rally on the fast and flowing Otago Roads, resulting in a podium finish.
Faced with the challenge of the fast gravel roads with multitudes of crests and long slippery and narrow forest stages, we completed the 280 km over the two days in 3rd overall in our championship class.
The opening stages started well on Saturday morning, but a minor mechanical problem held us up in SS3 and put us to the back of our class. We had no other problems over the next day and a half and by the end of the rally on Sunday afternoon we had clawed our way back up to 3rd in class.
The highlight was that on Sunday we were the fastest competitor in our class by over a minute. The on looking media took note of this, which resulted in the TV crew interviewing me which was again another new experience!
We are really happy with our result. It was great to get on the podium at my first New Zealand Rally Championship event.
Our next event is Rally Whangarei in two weeks’ time, we will keep you updated on progress.
Thank you all for your support and making it possible to go Rallying!
