Adams Brothers’ on the charge

Brother duo Matt Adams and co-driver Karl Adams are starting to click in the car. They have only been in the car together for 3 Rallies and Matt says “The notes are starting to fall in the right place and Karl’s working out at what speed I like them. With this I’m starting to trust the notes more and more what is really helping my confidence and speed”.

After winning the Group A Challenge at the Mahindra Goldrush Rally of Coromandel this has put them first equal in their class with Ben Brown. They finished a remarkable 14th overall and 4th in Cat 5.  It’s not the first time they have finished strong having achieved 1st in class and a podium finish in the class above (CAT5) at this year’s International Rally of Whangarei.

Adams hasn’t just been looking at his class but also the one above. Matt says “I am really enjoying the Group A challenge and we have built a great car, but with Motorsport NZ not making this a National round we have been focusing on CAT5 in the background. There’s something inside of me that says how close can we get to these guys. I feel a bit like the underdog in this class and I love to be pushed as surely it can only make me a better driver.”

It is with this continued mindset that Adams is determined to master all that his 1989 Mitsubishi VR4 can offer and will no doubt have others keeping an eye on their stage times.  The next NZRC round in October see’s both North Island and South Island competitor’s come together for the Final round of the Group A challenge. This round will be the first time Adams and Ben Brown come head to head.
