Busy lead up to Whangarei for RCK Rally Team

The whole RCK Contractors Rally Team have been burning the midnight oil in the lead up to the opening round of the Brian Green Property Group New Zealand Rally Championship driven by VINZ, Rally Whangarei, this weekend.

Since the season closing Rally Gisborne in 2013, the team have been hard at work trying to resolve the reliability issues that dogged the team throughout last season.

“I really have to take my hat off to the boys, they’ve done a fantastic job and pulled some serious hours in the lead up to the event to have the car going, without them there is no way we’d be out there,” says team driver Clint Cunningham.

The team has already experienced success, with co-driver Greg Ruka having finished in the top 20 percent at the World Crossfit Games, which attracted more than 200,000 people worldwide.

Meanwhile Cunningham has also been hard at work on his fitness as well, having completed the Whenuapai Half Marathon over the past weekend.

Now Cunningham and Ruka will look to continue the success on the roads around Whangarei and although their older Mitsubishi is unlikely to see them challenging for the top step of the podium, their previous experience in Rally of the North will see them with an advantage on the day one roads that are new to the event.

The VINZ International Rally of Whangarei gets underway with a ceremonial start on Friday 11 April, with competitive action starting the following day on roads new to the event north of Whangarei. After six stages, teams will then complete two passes of the Pohe Island Super Special Stage under darkness. Day two sees a further six stages before the ceremonial finish at 3pm.
