Would you like to get involved with local motorsport?
The easiest way is to join your local motorsport club. My local club is Motorsport BOP. There is heaps of information on their website to get you started. If you don’t have the budget to go racing but want to be more involved, clubs are usually looking for people to help with marshalling and timekeeping. This could be a great way to meet other members of a club, and without people willing to do these jobs the club couldn’t hold events!
If you want to have a go at an event without major expense, most clubs hold events that you can compete in using your everyday road car without having to have roll cages etc. These are a great way to get started as a driver and mean just about anyone over the age of 12 who has access to a car can start to become involved with motorsport.
Some other clubs in or close to the Bay of Plenty to check out are :
Thames Valley Car Club
Rotorua Car Club
Hamilton Car Club
My personal experience in joining a club has been fantastic. I’ve met lots of really neat people from all walks of life. Just about everyone I’ve gotten to know has bent over backwards to help me with advice and spare parts etc, and everyone at the club made me feel welcome. I’ve also got to know members from other clubs through various events and have found the same with them.
Joining the local motorsport club was the best thing I could have done. Lots of friendly like-minded people who also enjoy a beer or two when not driving – what could be better!
If you dont want to join a club but are a regular spectator / photographer, send us your best shots/movies and we will share them for all the drivers to see. It’s amazing how many people we see taking photos and filming and yet the drivers never get to see them!
Feel free to email me if you need to know anything else and I will do my best to answer your questions or find out for you.
Cheers
