Jack Williamson has a great run at Waitomo Rally

Waitomo 2017 post-rally report

We couldn’t be happier with the performance of the Swift at the recent Waitomo Rally.  The drivers weren’t bad either!

To be honest the rally got off to a great start – we had an early start leaving Raglan at 4.15am and managed to beat Dave Strong and Bruce McKenzie to the start position of the Recce on Friday.  Everyone knows that is no easy job!  The recce confirmed the roads were going to be great to drive with an excellent base with some very fast sections.

The weather on Saturday was warm and sunny.  The service crew enjoyed the weather but it certainly got very very hot in the car on the longer stages.

The Swift went without a hitch.  There were absolutely no issues and the service crew had an easy run…. Apart from the fact that someone whose name begins with J forgot to put the sill stands into the new truck.  Thankfully Bryn Smith’s team assisted – Big thanks.

We had one spin on stage 3 and were pleased to have got away with absolutely no damage.  The change we made to our pace notes for SS4 also came in handy where we had clearly marked up the 4R at junction into 4Left and made a clean job of it.  Not so for everyone!

Good weather on rallies always makes it more fun to chat to the other teams between stages and we were very lucky to have awesome teams in front and behind us on the day.

Overall the pace notes went well, the car never missed a beat and the drivers delivered a very good finish of 36 out of 81 teams.

Great to see Bryn Smith back for this rally and finishing!  Not so good for Jonsey and Tanya. A sad day to see your baby down the bank.

Big thanks to our service crew:  Steve, Neal, Glenn, Dan and Mary – brilliant job.

Great job Hamilton Car Club and special thanks to the event’s major sponsor Handy Rentals,

THANKS to our sponsors for their support – Handy Rentals Hamilton, WDE and Paddon Rally Foundation.  Thanks also for the ongoing assistance from the Elite Motorsport Academy
