Pre Rally Canterbury from Max Bayley

Hi all

This weekend I am travelling down to Christchurch to compete in the Canterbury Rally, the third round of the NZRC. It kicks off on Saturday night with two night stages, and then commences on Sunday in forestry stages north of Christchurch. It will be awesome to get back into some night stages and also hopefully finish up with some more points on the board!

There has been plenty of work put in behind the scenes fixing up the car after Otago, but after a big effort by Trev it’s back looking mint! Luckily the damage wasn’t too bad, especially with only a 3 week turnaround between Otago and Canterbury to get it sorted.

With 57 entries there will be plenty of competition. We are seeded 16th behind some of the top historic cars which should make for some tight racing. The roads are mainly in forestry, which I normally enjoy as their narrow and twisty nature suits our car. One of the challenges last year was the patches of ice on the road. This could also be an issue this year especially when you consider it was snowing down there last weekend.

The aim for the weekend is to finish in the top 10 and top 2wd, but we will have our work cut out for us as it’s the home round for Klinky and Deane Buist.

TrophyOn another note, it was great to go down to Wellington last weekend for the Motorsport New Zealand prize giving! I claimed some silverware, receiving the 2wd Championship trophy from last season, so hopefully we do a repeat this year.

If you find yourself twiddling your thumbs Saturday night tune into www.chrissport.co.nz for live results, and www.nzrallychamps.co.nz for live streaming videos.

Thanks again to the sponsors Farmlands, Gulf Oils, Freshmax, VJ’s Distributers and John Bates Wheel Alignments.

Cheers

Max
