Rally GB – Daily update from Jack Hintz

Saturday

What a day!

I walked from the apartment I was staying over to a hotel where some friends were staying and we went out together to catch SS11 Aberhirnant 1 which was 13.87 km
It was so nice to be able to soak in the Welsh countryside, it was absolutely stunning.

Once we got to the stage we trekked up the road a bit until we found a decent spot to watch from. Lots and lots of spectators on this section, which involved a long straight into a 90 left round some hay bales and off up another straight. This short video is not great but it gives you an idea of my spectating point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-_Ky6Dcd4Q

It was quite funny watching one of the spectators having an all out argument with one of the Marshalls about wanting to be on the other side of the road too, that kept us entertained until the first cars showed up.

My first glimpse of the polos and i20s in anger! They were really going for it down the straight, quite a few missing braking points or going too wide into the corner at the end. Hayden was by far the tidiest through our section, with Mads even going as far as having to essentially speed up again to get to the corner!

After this we went back to service and I was lucky enough to get a spot standing right next to the media zone which was cool.

We had the added bonus of the massive screen there so we could watch all the action from the super specials, so  that was good day to watch until the cars came back in for the final service of the day.

I ended up in Hyundai’s pop-up mansion for the evening, which was great to be in… And warm!

To end the night off I got a ride home with my good friend that was competing in the national rally, in his micra rally car.

Nothing to finish the night off like getting a kebab in a rally car at half past midnight!
