The 2021 edition of the popular Rankleburn Rally will take place once again in the Rankleburn Forest in West Otago on Saturday 20 November.
The event is organised by the Eastern Southland Car Club with support from MLT / Croydon Lodge and Ernslaw One Limited.
The rally is part of the club’s rally championship and will comprise four Special Stages totalling approximately 80 kilometres. There will be a very small touring stage distance as the rally follows a new route this year including Special Stage 3, Sharps Road which links to Landsend and John O’Groats Roads, quite tricky territory last used in the 2008 Gore Rally.
The event will be based at Telford Tops Road in the Rankleburn Forest, West Otago, and is approximately one hour from Gore and 35 minutes from Balclutha and will be signposted from State Highway 1.
Servicing takes place at Telford Tops Road throughout the day with prizegiving to be held at the Croydon Hotel on the Main Queenstown Highway where bistro meals will be available after the event.
Last year’s rally drew a strong field which saw Carter Strang of Wallacetown and co-driver Stewart Robbie in their Mitsubishi Lancer EVO 6 win the event for the second successive year. Strang and Robbie won all four Special Stages to head home Mark McMillan / Murray Wright of Invercargill in a Subaru Legacy RS, with another Wallacetown driver, Neville Krammer, third in another Subaru Legacy.
